Oakley Electric Customers Join Midwest Energy
|
|
November 28th marked the closing date of sale of the Oakley electric distribution system to Midwest Energy for $2.5 million. All the documents pertaining to the sale were signed in a ceremony at the Oakley City Hall. Oakley citizens voted overwhelmingly to accept the proposal last September.
Under Midwest Energy’s rates, residential customers will save approximately $190 a year and commercial customers over $700 a year in electric costs.
Earnie Lehman, President and General Manager of Midwest Energy said, “We’re pleased to provide our Oakley customer-owners with lower electric rates on day one, and with more reliable electric service in the near future. From tree-trimming to rebuilding much of the local distribution system to constructing new facilities, we are committed to providing first class electric service to these customers.â€
Frank Munk, Mayor of the City of Oakley said, “I want to thank the citizens of Oakley for getting involved in this decision and demonstrating their civic responsibility, and letting the City Council know how they felt on this issue and in which direction they wanted the City to proceed. We look forward to their input on future decisions. The City will continue a lasting working relationship with Midwest Energy.â€
Midwest Energy has been providing natural gas services to Oakley customers since 1998, and will begin operating the electric system December 1, 2006.
