Regional Energy Emergency Ends; Midwest Energy Resumes Normal Operations

February 18, 2021

The Southwest Power Pool, which is the regional transmission operator for a 14-state region, lifted all energy emergency conditions at 9:30 am today. Customers are free to use energy as normal at this time.

Pat Parke, Midwest Energy’s CEO, issued a “Thank You” to customers for conserving energy over these last four days.

“Our customers’ efforts helped lower demands on the electric grid at a most critical time,” Parke said. “Those conservation efforts, and the limited controlled outages we had to impose for 1,200 customers Tuesday morning, helped avoid uncontrolled blackouts and kept the electric grid functioning during the most critical event in the 80-year history of the Southwest Power Pool.”
