Hays Businesses, Organizations Join “MoKan Take Charge Challenge”

September 24, 2013

More than a dozen Hays-area businesses and organizations have teamed up to participate in the MoKan Take Charge Challenge (TCC), a competition which encourages energy and water conservation between cities in Kansas and Missouri.  Hays is competing against Hutchinson, Kansas City, Kan., and Warrensburg, Mo., for the $10,000 Grand Prize towards an energy or water conservation project within the winning community.

The MoKan TCC, sponsored by the Climate + Energy Project (CEP), encourages businesses and schools to inventory electrical and water using devices, conduct an audit to see where improvements can be made, and implement new energy and water saving devices.  Ultimately, the goal of the TCC is to raise awareness of energy and water conservation, resulting in changing of daily habits, conservation of resources, and measurable dollars saved.

Local businesses participating as of mid-September include: Northwestern Printers, Inc., Midwest Energy, Hays Medical Center, Thomas More Prep, Nex-Tech, Inc., Ellis County Coalition, Hadley Center, Cross Manufacturing, Holy Family Elementary, Eagle Communications, Inc., Ellis County, KSU Ag Research Center-Hays, City of Hays Wastewater Plant, and Master Cleaners.

Businesses or organizations may still sign up.  For more information about the Take Charge Challenge, which runs through Jan. 31, 2014, visit takechargechallenge.com, or please contact Sandy Beisner at 785-650-2577.
